Gardenia Jungle Entertainment is excited to bring John Gorka to the St. Francis Auditorium at Santa Fe's New Mexico Museum of Art. Opening for him will be Madrid, NM's Lucy Barna.
Gorka is perhaps the quintessential iconic singer-songwriter of the 80s folk scene. Hailing from New Jersey, but forged in the Greenwich Village Fast Folk scene, he honed his craft and persona into an unmistakable image - wry and insightful. His rich multi-faceted songs full of depth, beauty and emotion have gained much attention from critics and audiences across the country and internationally. Today, his old songs ring as true as they ever did, and the new ones are just as good.
Rolling Stone called Gorka “the preeminent male singer/songwriter of the new folk movement.” Boston Globe said "Gorka is widely heralded for the sophisticated intelligence and provocative originality of his songs.”
Many well known artists have recorded and/or performed John Gorka songs, including Mary Chapin Carpenter, Nanci Griffith, Mary Black and Maura O’Connell. He's also shared tours with many notable friends—Nanci Griffith, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Eliza Gilkyson, and Lucy Kaplansky among them. John has graced the stage of Austin City Limits, appeared on CNN, and has been the subject of other national programming.
Opening for John Gorka will be Lucy Barna. Given her first guitar at the age of 17, Lucy has been singing her story through song ever since. Lucy performs regionally as a solo singer-songwriter, as well as with her bands Hot Honey, Hitchhike Honey, and High Hippie Associates. Learn more at lucybarna.com.
